David Cameron warns MPs would defeat attempts to repeal gay marriage after Andrea Leadsom criticism

David Cameron has warned that any attempt to repeal his gay marriage law will be voted down by MPs after Tory leadership candidate Andrea Leadsom criticised the legislation.

The Prime Minister said he was “extremely proud” of the move and claimed an “enormous” majority of MPs support it, praising how Britain led the way on the issue.

Earlier this week Mrs Leadsom, who abstained in the original vote, said she “did not like” the law and question whether the word “marriage” should apply to gay couples in long-term relationships.

[…]  The comments will be interpreted as a rebuke of Mrs Leadsom, who this week publicly questioned whether the Prime Minister was right to legislate for gay marriage in 2013.
