Dozen gay clergy defy church over ban on marriage

A dozen Church of England clergy are to reveal that they have defied the Archbishop of Canterbury by marrying their gay partners.

They will go public in an open letter in which they will also urge the church to permit blessings for same-sex weddings.

Half of the signatories had already declared themselves to be in a same-sex marriage. Doubling the number threatens the fragile truce on an issue that has divided the church since same-sex marriages were allowed in England and Wales in March 2014.
