FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

LITURGICAL THEME FOR THE DAY: The Lenten journey is an opportunity to rediscover our baptismal promises as we go through the Spiritual Exercises that we have chosen in the hopes that on this first Sunday in Lent, we can turn away from evil and journey all the way to Holy Week not to deny Him.

MEDITATION OF THE DAY: We all value trust. When we give it we expect others ro safe guard it. When it is disregarded, dismissed or played with, we become hurt and even at times outraged. For others of us it is a matter of where we place our TRust. The Nation? Technology? Money? This is a terribly important matter to ponder because as we see in Psalm 63 today ,this question is at the heart of its portrayal of the life of faith. Do we trust in the creator, covenant-making, healing God of Israel — or in something else, some kind of idol? Psalm 63 is an excellent reminder toward trust in God instead of the things of this world. Trust in God requires distrust in the various isms that surround us and pervade our life. Some that you may know are racism, sexism nationalisms, consumerisms just to name a few that usurps God in our lives.

PRAYER OF THE DAY: As I step out into the future Lord, I place my trust in You, for I am sure that You read the thoughts of my hearts and know that my desire is to remain in the centre of Your perfect will for my life.. Please grant me the gift of trust and perseverance to that end I pray. Amen ANCIENT WISDOM/PRESENT GRACE: We must neither doubt nor hesitate with respect to the words of the Lord; rather we must be fully persuaded that every word of God is true and possible, even if our nature should rebel against the idea — for in this lays the test of faith- St. Basil the Great, Homily II

LENTEN DISCIPLINE – Go to a person whose trust you have broken and seek forgiveness and the desire to regain their trust.
