Tributes paid to Christian journalist Andrew Carey

Tributes have been paid to journalist Andrew Carey, who died from pancreatic cancer earlier this year. He was previously editor of the Church of England Newspaper.
David Virtue, of website Virtue Online, said: “I first met Andrew at the 1998 Lambeth Conference where the ‘infamous’ Lambeth resolution 1:10 (on sexuality) emerged and forever changed the course and direction of the Anglican Communion.
“Andrew was truly in his element and as a fellow evangelical we bonded as there were few evangelical reporters at that time. Our paths crossed over the years. He went on to become the editor of the Church of England Newspaper. A voice for orthodoxy has been stilled. We feebly struggle, he in glory shines.”
Bishop Pete Broadbent said: “I had the joy of preparing Andrew for confirmation (along with his brother Mark and several other members of the St Nic’s Durham youth group), so we went back a long way. Later, when we moved to London, he lived with us for a while.
“His journalism was always sharp and fair – well-researched and unafraid to tackle some of the more difficult controversies within the Church of England. Andrew was a person of great integrity, humour and faith. He’ll be greatly missed, and we thank God for him.”
Andrew’s brother Mark Carey said: “He had no idea about how far and wide he was appreciated – which is probably a good pointer towards his humility.
“He was steady and wise in family and in the workplace. He would drop everything to support us and was completely reliable. What you saw is what you got. He was a voracious reader and learner. He was excellent with his interventions on behalf of and sometimes in defence of our dad [Archbishop George Carey], advising him and managing media enquiries.”
