A glimmer of light in the anti-Semitic darkness

IN THE struggle against anti-Semitism, good news is as rare as sighting the Loch Ness monster. When it does happen it’s a cause for celebration and a deep sigh of relief, before carrying on fighting the good fight.
On Friday the German Parliament passed a motion denouncing the Boycott Disinvest Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.
BDS is built on the lie that Israel is an apartheid state. It advocates for the destruction of the world’s only Jewish country, a democracy the size of Wales. Should campaigners succeed, the almost seven million Jews living in Israel, alongside two million Arab Muslims, Christians, Baha’i and Druze, would face annihilation. And the eight million Jews living in the diaspora would be vulnerable to persecution or even worse.
Anyone who hasn’t swallowed the Islamist propaganda on Israel knows that BDS identifying Israeli-owned businesses in Europe, and labels on Israeli goods in supermarkets, are contemporary versions of Kristallnacht.
No wonder the Bundestag declared BDS to be anti-Semitic and vowed that it would not finance any organisations which support a boycott of Israel or has similar aims to that of BDS.
Anti-Semitism in Germany has escalated over the past few years. Angela Merkel’s 2015 disastrous decision to open Europe’s borders to ‘refugees’ has led to an influx of migrants who individually may not be anti-Semitic but originate from countries which have a core culture of anti-Semitism.
