from Church Society
Early assessments suggest an encouraging General Synod election result for orthodox Anglicans: a clear lead among elected laity and roughly even numbers among clergy. Whether this represents an improvement on last time still needs careful checking. The Church of England does not make gathering and comparing election results easy! The majority of Church Society members who stood were elected.

Inclusive Church’s declared candidates appear well short of a majority, with many unsuccessful. Those elected who have publicly affirmed orthodox teaching on sexuality are a little short of a majority but appear numerous enough to comfortably block doctrinal changes requiring two-thirds majorities in each House—provided they stand together and vote. The undeclared “middle ground” appears to have shrunk further since the last election, as the issues become clearer in the wake of the Living in Love and Faith debacle.
That is grounds for encouragement, not complacency. Liberal campaigners may pursue other routes to advance their aims without securing those majorities. So this is certainly not the time to give up on the Church and leave it all to them unopposed. The next five years will again be a battle for the soul of the Church of England. Please pray for our representatives, who meet next month..
