Kamel Hawwash, a former Birmingham University academic, is among scores of winning Green candidates who shared controversial content online
A Green Party candidate who described the October 7 terror attacks as “courage in the face of aggression” is among scores of newly elected councillors who have shared controversial content online.
Kamel Hawwash, a former professor who was elected in Stirchley, Birmingham, shared a post on his website less than two weeks after the 2023 terror attacks headlined “10 days since Al-Aqsa Flood: Courage in the face of aggression.”
The former vice-chairman of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign also shared the false claims that Israel “killed its own citizens, including children” on October 7.
Mr Hawwash, a former professor of civil engineering at the University of Birmingham, also previously described Zionism as “Jewish supremacy” and claimed “millions” would be mourning the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader.
Racial hatred arrest
Also elected in Birmingham was Atikur Rahman, a Green candidate who shared anti-Israel conspiracy theories on social media, including that Israel was “attacking the UK” by funding last summer’s riots and far-Right thug Tommy Robinson.
Meanwhile, Streatham St Leonard’s in south London elected Saiqa Ali, who was arrested last week on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred.
