Former Scottish Labour leader is the new boss of LGBT charity Stonewall which has been accused of pursuing a ‘militant trans agenda’

Kezia Dugdale “still believes” in gender self-ID despite the Supreme Court ruling that a person’s sex is defined as biological.

The former Scottish Labour leader has been named as the chairwoman of the controversial LGBT charity, Stonewall.

Dugdale supported the SNP government’s Gender Recognition Reform bill, which aimed to make it easier for people, including 16 and 17-year-olds, to change their legal gender. The self-ID would have removed the requirement for a medical diagnosis.

The law passed in 2022, but was blocked by the UK government the year after.

“I believed in it, I still do,” Dugdale told the Guardian. However, she said that self-ID was “not top of the list” of Stonewall’s priorities. “We are an LGBT organisation, of course we’re going to be there for trans people … but our priorities are very much focused on things like securing justice for military veterans and compensation for what they’ve endured.”
