Ms Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, a Nigerian living in Britain writes in the Times about slavery reparations:
“…the most useful question in the reparations debate is not whether modern Britons should feel personally guilty for slavery. They should not. It is whether a modern state can bear historical obligations even though its population has changed dramatically. If the answer is yes, those of us choosing to join Britain must be prepared to acknowledge what follows.”
Her argument makes clear that makes clear that any reparations would be paid by all taxpayers—unless (practically impossible and socially divisive distinctions are made between those deemed to have profited from slavery and others). Thus it exposes their unfairness and irrationality.
