Jews are fleeing to Israel to escape hatred, persecution and death
The legendary figure of the wandering Jew has taken on new meaning. Throughout America and the West more broadly, Jews now find themselves menaced at every turn. They now have a shrinking number of ‘safe places.’ In response, some are seeking safety in homogeneous, insulated environments. Others meanwhile are on the search for more congenial places to live. The wandering Jew has returned, now with his laptop in a backpack, seeking some form of security.
The recent killing of two young Jews (one born to a Jewish father and so a Jew by ancient standards, his fiancee born to two Jewish parents) in Washington DC has sparked a worldwide review by many Jews as to where their future lies as the hatred towards the Chosen Ones exponentially increases.
There is a profound irony in all this. Multiple Arab nations and not a few western nations would love to see Israel disappear from the face of the earth with one Palestinian state replacing Israel–to add to the 57 Muslim states that already exist. But as Jews are being persecuted globally, they are taking their money and minds and heading to their historic birthplace, strengthening the beleaguered state at a time when the nation state is under siege. Irony indeed.
The losers will be the countries they are fleeing from, including sadly, the United States.
