My Answer to The Guardian’s Smear Campaign

If you can’t grab the ball, hit the man. If you can’t beat the arguments, smear the arguer. In my long experience of the ‘Culture Wars’, this is what the ‘progressive’ Left is wont to do. And it’s what the Guardian did recently , when it published an article about the campaign against ‘Project Spire’, the Church of England’s misguided attempt to divert £100 million of its assets toward making reparations for its involvement in transatlantic slavery.

I’ve been leading this campaign for two reasons. Primarily, because the case for Britain in general, and the Church of England in particular, to make reparations is historically distorted, ethically simplistic, and politically opportunistic. But also, consequently, because I don’t want my country and my church to be exposed to the infinite, racially divisive exploitation of misplaced white guilt by parties intent on milking taxpayers and churchgoers of very finite resources.
