Investigation finds care at the WellBN practice in Brighton and Hove ‘fell far short of what could be considered safe or appropriate’
A rogue NHS GP clinic has been forced to stop prescribing transgender treatment to 78 children it “may have harmed”.
Doctors at the WellBN practice in Brighton and Hove involved in treating children with gender issues have been referred to the General Medical Council.
An investigation by NHS Sussex found the medics’ care “fell far short of what could be considered safe or appropriate”.
“None of the clinicians whose care was considered in the investigation were professionally competent to initiate or assume responsibility for prescribing these medications,” the report said.
Even when prescribing the drugs against guidelines, the doctors failed to take appropriate blood tests and physical checks “putting the immediate and longer-term physical health” of children at risk.
It also had a “poor approach” to seeking consent and had “badly kept medical records”.
One of the GPs involved has been suspended from working in the NHS, it is understood.
