Arsenal’s growing contingent of Christian players have been praying and reading the Bible together throughout the season. Now, following their Premiership title win, they’ve taken to social media to give God glory. Here’s what we know about the faith of Timber, Saka, Gabriel, Eze, Madueke and more
As Arsenal celebrated their first Premier League win in 22 years, a group of players affectionately known as “the Bible brothers” dedicated the moment to God.
In a celebratory social media post, the players wore their medals and gathered around the Premier League trophy, while several made the sign of the cross. It was another moment of openess among sports stars who profess a Christian faith.
Many of the players in the photo, including ‘Pastor’ Jurriën Timber, Eberechi Eze, Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka, have spoken openly about their strong Christian faith and the impact it has on their lives as professional footballers.
While Arsenal is one of the few Premier League clubs not to have a club chaplain, there is a deep respect for faith at the club. Muslim player, Mohamed Elney, opened the first multi-faith player prayer room at the stadium last year.
When asked what he thought about his squad meeting for prayer and Bible study, manager Mikel Arteta said: “I love it because I think that connects them more. The fact that some of them have the same beliefs or strong beliefs about that helps their well-being and mental side. I think it’s phenomenal.”
Here’s what we know about the Christian faith of some of Arsenal’s top players.
