The horror of Britain’s broken borders

Grooming gangs1

The British state is facilitating the rape of British women. There is no other way to put it now. Consider the case of Radiet Meles, the Eritrean illegal immigrant who has carried out two vicious sexual assaults since arriving here on the back of a lorry in 2015. It was the state’s failure to deport him, or even to monitor him, that gave him free rein to inflict such misogynistic sadism on the women of Britain. It’s that simple.

Out of all the crimes committed by foreign men the state should have deported – and there are many – Meles’ are among the sickest and most galling. Time and again, this intruder into our lands slipped through the fingers of officialdom. On at least two occasions, the state could have removed this monster from Britain. But it failed, and women paid a savage price for that failure.

Meles is 35. He’s an ex-soldier from Eritrea. After sneaking into Britain through the Channel Tunnel in 2015, he was detained for just two days before being inexplicably spirited into the community. He was transported to Newport in South Wales, where he worked at a car wash. It was there, in 2019, that he committed his first crime – actually his second, if we count his illicit breach of our borders. He carried out an attempted rape on an unconscious woman at a house party.

He was sentenced to five years for that heinous assault on a passed-out innocent. Following his conviction, the judge told him it was ‘likely’ he’d be deported upon release. It will shock no one – and sicken everyone – that this didn’t happen. Instead he was allowed back into Newport. And, once again, he preyed on women. In March this year, he inflicted rape and assault by beating on another Newport woman. He was found guilty last week and will be sentenced in November.

Here’s the cruellest part of this most tawdry story: not only was Meles not deported following his release – he wasn’t even being monitored when he arrived back in Newport. How is this possible? How can it be that a man can break into our country and sexually assault one of our citizens and then be set free to do the same again? What the hell does an illegal immigrant have to do to get booted out of Britain?
