Why doesn’t the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) change its name to the Communist College of Nursing? For surely the egregious treatment of black Christian nurse Jennifer Melle by the RCN shows that it has been captured by a neo-Marxist ideology that arguably resembles a religious cult.
Christian Concern, which is supporting Melle in her employment tribunal action against Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals, reports:
“The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and its General Secretary and Chief Executive, Professor Nicola Ranger, are under growing scrutiny for refusing to intervene in the case of Jennifer Melle, a senior nurse suspended after declining to use biologically inaccurate pronouns for a convicted male paedophile patient.
Despite the UK Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in For Women Scotland, which reaffirmed the legal recognition of biological sex, the RCN has stalled on implementing the judgment, citing the need to ‘await EHRC [Equality and Human Rights Commission] statutory guidance’, a process already plagued by delay and resistance within government and public institutions.”
Melle has been suspended by Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals since April for an alleged “data breach” after speaking to the media about being disciplined for indirectly referring to the male transgender paedophile as “Mr”.
Letters seen by Christian Concern reveal that the Darlington Nursing Union wrote to the RCN outlining concerns over Melle’s continued suspension for the alleged “data breach”. The union stressed that she is a competent nurse who wants to return to work but cannot compromise her Christian belief that sex is immutable.
Christian Concern reports that Melle met with members of the RCN, including Professor Ranger, at the College’s London headquarters in October. However, Ranger abruptly left the meeting after receiving a phone call and did not return.
Following the meeting, Ranger wrote to Melle acknowledging the impact on her but confirmed that the RCN will not act substantively until the EHRC publishes its statutory code of practice:
“We await the EHRC statutory code of practice for services, public functions, and associations and the code may provide guidance on how this relates to the provision of health and care services.
“Finally, and although Jennifer has chosen the Christian Legal Centre to provide her with legal advice and representation in respect of her Employment Tribunal and NMC proceedings, Jennifer remains able to access our other member support services as she may require.”
Christian Concern points out that “this position contrasts sharply with the RCN’s swift adoption of Stonewall-inspired policies and its active promotion of LGBTQI+ inclusion initiatives”.
Under Nicola Ranger’s leadership, the RCN has embedded LGBTQI+ inclusion as a core principle in its policies and campaigns, including:

Advocacy Against Hate Crime: Congress resolutions for better training to support LGBTQ+ victims.
EDI Conferences and Webinars: Promoting allyship and inclusive care across the profession.
Christian Concern quotes Ranger describing equity and inclusion as a “moral imperative”. She stated:
“Our health and care systems can only thrive when they reflect, respect and actively engage the diversity of the people they serve – and the people who work within them.”
Is not the fanaticism with which the RCN is resisting any incursion against its commitment to transgender ideology similar to that shown by irrational religious cults?
This dogma trumps the nasty things that the traditional British Left used to oppose such as racial discrimination and discrimination against women. Melle was racially abused by the transgender patient she was trying to help and she was being compelled by her employers to attribute her own biological sex to a male. But the neo-Marxists running the NHS could not care less.
The sad reality is that the fanatics’ ideology has become the official religion of the British state because it is supported by the government. Is that not why ministers are being so dilatory about implementing the Supreme Court ruling?
A courageous Christian nurse seems to have found herself in the frontline of a spiritual battle against a form of cultural Communism that is determined to erase the Judeo-Christian understanding of humanity as created male and female in the image of God. Does this not vindicate the truth of the saying probably attributable to the late Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990): “When men cease to believe in God, they do not believe in nothing; they believe in anything”?
