Big Sibling is watching you, through the eyes of Piers Morgan

by Kathy Gyngell, The Conservative Woman:

There is nowhere to hide from the sanctimonious and the censorious once you put yourself in the hands of our broadcast media. Dr David Mackereth, whose day in court we reported on yesterday, agreed with the best of intentions to be interviewed by ITV’s Good Morning Britain before he started giving evidence.

[…]  The ‘aggrieved’ – remember Dr Mackereth was sacked by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for telling the truth – was immediately turned by the hectoring presenter Piers Morgan into the aggressor.

I have a couple of questions I would like to put to Mr Morgan if he cares to look back at his shameless bullying (sorry, interview).

Who was being the nasty censorious one? Not, I think, the kindly and self-critical Dr Mackereth.

Who was making it clear that unless you lie, deny your conscience and/or your faith, or shut up, you are (or will be cast) a bigot? Not Dr Mackereth.

Morgan and co-presenter Susanna Reid were hostile from the start, treating Dr Mackereth as the guilty party. In an extraordinary sleight of speciousness, Morgan conflated Christianity with the Old Testament to try to accuse the avowedly Christian (that’s the New Testament, Piers) doctor of believing that adulterers should be stoned. Clearly he does not. He agreed only that it was written in the Old Testament.
