Bishop John Ellison, who was Bishop of Paraguay from 1988 – 2007,  and honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Winchester died on Sunday at the age of 78. He was chair of the Panel of Bishops of the Anglican Mission in England.  Bishop Andy Lines writes: “I have known John and Judie for 30 years, serving alongside John in Paraguay and more recently in Europe. John was my first experience of a bishop at close quarters, and it took me a while to realise how privileged I have been in an era when positive European models of episcopacy have been rare. His faithful and sacrificial service long into retirement has been much appreciated in the many spheres in which he has continued to serve: Church of England, AMiE, Scotland and the Algarve to name a few.” John leaves a widow Judith, one son and two daughters.
His funeral will be on Tuesday August 20 at 2 p.m. at St Mary’s Eastrop, Hampshire, RG21 7 PZ.
