Denial of Therapeutic Help – Letter to The Guardian

Denial of Therapeutic Help

Prof Andrew Samuels says that under the Government’s proposals regarding ‘conversion therapy’, “if you come to psychotherapy wishing to explore issues of sex and sexuality, you will still be able to do so”.

What he does not say is that even if you are a married man with children you are liable to be counseled to leave your family and move in with your boyfriend.   This cannot be right, but it is driven by the UKCP’s universal dogma that it is not in a client’s best interests to seek help to reduce unwanted same-sex attraction.

I wrote to Prof Samuels about this in February 2012, when he was Chair of UKCP.  He did not reply.  In the name of freedom we are denying freedom.

Yours faithfully
