Ely minister defends views after telling Christians to avoid Pride because it is ‘harmful for children’

A local minister has defended his views on homosexuality after telling Christians to avoid Pride events because they are “harmful for children” ahead of Cambridge’s first ever Pride festival.

Keith Waters, of the New Connexions Free Church which meets at Ely Community Centre, told Christians to “not support or attend” LGBT+ events in June on his Twitter page, and received a backlash from people who were less than impressed.

Pride says it aims to celebrate people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, sexuality or gender.

In the tweet Mr Waters posted yesterday (June 1), he wrote: “A reminder that Christians should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June.
