Parents take on John Swinney over porn lessons in new curriculum

Parents have accused Scottish schools of corrupting children with lessons about pornography, anal sex and transgender identity.

John Swinney, the education secretary, was confronted about a new relationship, sexual health and parenthood curriculum during a public meeting in Perth organised by the National Parent Forum of Scotland.

The curriculum explains that pornography bears little resemblance to real sexual relationships and “can be violent or degrading”, with behaviour that was “not appropriate in real life”.

One parent, Don Marshall, told Mr Swinney that he was “totally against lessons normalising pornography”.

Another parent said: “Right from the beginning of primary school they are teaching that sex is assigned at birth and gender is a subjective factor. I think that is a very dangerous and confusing message for young people. Masturbation is positively promoted in schools. . . Pornography is positively promoted in these materials as something beneficial and helpful. These materials are not educational, they are corrupting of children.”
