Roger Scruton with Jordan Peterson: Free speech is life itself

TO complete our week of Roger Scruton ‘republications’ which we have been posting to share and communicate his enlightened philosophy of conservatism, we have chosen a conversation between him and that other courageous intellectual, Jordan Peterson.

Moderated by Dr Stephen Blackwood, and introduced by Professor Douglas Hedley, it was presented by the Cambridge Centre for the Study of Platonism and Ralston College, Savannah, last November in Cambridge.

It is called ‘Apprehending the Transcendent’ but don’t be put off by the high-flown title. Sir Roger quickly explains it in terms of the leaps of imagination needed for us to put ourselves in each others’ positions – imagination that goes beyond our mere sensory understanding and fills the moral void in our lives.
