Synod member Sam Margrave has submitted a motion to the General Synod asking the Archbishop’s Council to stop – through legislation- the display of the Pride rainbow flag on church buildings.

In his own words, he says the flag is ‘representing contrary to the word of God.’

Margrave requests that the Synod, while “affirming that God loves all people irrespective of their sexual orientation, nevertheless considers that the ‘Pride’ flag and what it represents in terms of the ordering of lives and relationships- is contrary to the word of God.”

Margrave has also asked for the prohibition of any other political or other campaigning flags in or on church buildings.

Furthermore he has called on the House of Bishops “to state that support for Pride is incompatible with the Christian faith, with its agenda being contrary to scriptural teaching and doctrine and by promoting sexuality and promiscuity, and by the denial of the distinction between male and female.”

In response LGBT campaigner Jayne Ozanne said: “The Pride flag symbolises inclusion and has nothing to do with ‘promoting promiscuity.’
