Time is running out for the woman ordered to have an abortion – call Matt Hancock.

by Caroline Farrow, CitizenGo:

It is now only a matter of time before a gruesome late-term abortion is forcibly performed upon a woman against her will.

In 24 hours, over 52,000 people signed our petition demanding that the Health Secretary Matt Hancock urgently intervenes to prevent this horror. John Keenan, bishop of Paisley has also recorded a video urging people to sign the petition and appealing directly to Mr Hancock.

It is easy to feel powerless in these situations, but there is now something else that you can do which could make all the difference.

It is imperative that Mr Hancock understands the depth of feeling about this situation. The UK is supposedly a democracy, not mainland China where state-enforced abortions are the norm. The authorities have no right to force a woman to abort her child.

If you feel as strongly about this case as I do, please could you consider calling the parliamentary office of Mr Hancock on this number, 020 7219 7186, in order to register your objection and to plead with him to intervene before it is too late.

The suggested conversation could go something like this:

“I am sure you are aware of the headlines about a Nigerian woman with learning disabilities who is being forced to have an abortion that she does not want. The woman’s mother has expressed a desire to take care of her grandchild and also said that doctors have underestimated her daughter’s level of ability and understanding.

A late-term abortion is always profoundly distressing. To perform one on a vulnerable woman against her will is a form of torture. The woman is already at 22 weeks of pregnancy and if the baby were to be born in just a week’s time would stand a high chance of survival. There is nothing to suggest that continuing the pregnancy would in any way endanger the physical or emotional health of the mother. This judgement violates the rights of both the mother and her unborn child. Please could Mr Hancock immediately intervene.”

Mr Hancock’s staff will be manning his switchboard, so it is important to remain calm, polite and respectful during your conversation with them.

If you do manage to call Mr Hancock’s office, please let me know the outcome of your call. I realise that this is an unusual step, but these really are extraordinary circumstances. We cannot let the state force abortions on vulnerable women and their babies.

With huge thanks for all that you do,

Caroline Farrow and the entire team at CitizenGO
