Two days left to seize a real opportunity

from Coalition for Marriage:

The Government’s consultation on changing the Gender Recognition Act closes on Friday at 23.00.

This is a genuine chance to make a difference. Opposition is coming from many different quarters. Just in recent days:

  • An open letter from almost 200 individuals highlighted the way women’s objections are being silenced;
  • A poll of MPs showed concerns about free speech, the rise in children claiming they are transgender and men accessing women-only spaces like refuges.

The Government is under pressure. Marriage supporters must speak up and respond to the consultation while there’s still time. By standing for what “man” and “woman” mean, we’re defending the heart of traditional marriage.

Changes consulted on include:

  • Allowing a person to change legal gender on demand without first living as a member of the opposite sex for two years;
  • Allowing legal gender change without any medical diagnosis, which would remove a key protection from the current system;
  • Removing the requirement that a married person who changes gender may only do so with the permission of their spouse, potentially forcing people into ‘same-sex marriages’.

Please respond today if you haven’t already. Our guide is available here.
