Urge medics to stand against assisted suicide

from The Christian Institute:

Last year we wrote to you about Our Duty of Care (ODOC), a group of healthcare professionals who oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Thank you to those of you who signed its letter to Health Secretary Sajid Javid urging him to keep the current legal protections. It gathered nearly 1,700 signatures and received good coverage in the media.

Since then, at Westminster, Lord Forsyth’s attempt to force the Government to bring in an assisted suicide law was voted down. Baroness Meacher’s Bill to remove legal protections has also fallen. We give thanks to God for these results. But there remains intense pressure from activists to change the law across the British Isles.

Introducing assisted suicide would be dangerous for society. It would send a message that some lives are not worth living. If you are a healthcare professional, please consider signing the declaration on the Our Duty of Care website. The declaration affirms the “utmost respect for human life and our opposition to euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide”. It then calls for existing legal protections to remain in place, stressing that the duty of healthcare professionals is to care for their patients.

Any medical professional, including those who have retired, may add their signature to the declaration. If you know any healthcare professionals who oppose assisted suicide, please forward this email to them.

SIGN DECLARATION

Please pray for all those working to oppose assisted suicide, and that many medics would sign the declaration.

Yours in Christ,
Ciarán Kelly
