Reports and comment:

CNN report from Ashley Killough: “House passes Equality Act to increase protections for sexual orientation and gender identity”.

[…] The bill, known as the “Equality Act,” would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other civil rights laws to include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected characteristics. But critics argue it raises serious concerns for religious communities as well as women’s sports.

It passed largely along party lines in the Democratic-controlled House, 236-173, but it’s not expected to be taken up in the GOP-led Senate. Eight Republicans supported the bill.

Conservatives argue the bill threatens freedom of speech, religion and women’s rights. In a heated floor debate before the vote, Republicans pointed to a provision in the bill that says an individual could not be denied access to a restroom, locker room or dressing room based on their gender identity. Opponents say that would force women and girls to share private spaces with men. Critics also say the bill could facilitate men participating in women’s sports if they identify as female.

The LGBT juggernaut: time for Christians to face our failure, by Robert Oscar Lopez, Stream

The Equality Act will force everyone to lie. We will have to tell innocent children that they have two daddies, when they do not. Then we will have to tell confused teenagers that they are girls when they are boys. We will have to tell miserable and suicidal homosexuals that their unhappiness derives from external homophobia. The solution to their unhappiness would actually be to stop engaging in homosexuality and pursue a normal heterosexual life.

People should oppose this act with all their energy because it will affect everyone in America. So speak up and oppose it.

Please take action on the so-called ‘Equality Act’, by Jim Daly, Focus on the Family. History is full of people who attempt to use soft words to describe dark deeds. From dictators to authoritarians of all stripes, sin is often spun to try and sound noble and merciful, e.g. “reproductive rights” and “death with dignity.” In fact, I’ve been reminded of this in recent days with the rise of the so-called “Equality Act” – a piece of legislation that is an outright assault on freedom, privacy, safety and parents’ rights.

Pro-LGBT clergy rally [in support of] Equality Actby Rick Plasterer, Juicy Ecumenism.

An interfaith coalition of groups sponsored a prayer vigil at the United Methodist Building in Washington, DC on May 14 in support of the Equality Act (H.R. 5), pending before the House of Representatives…Speakers from a variety of faith traditions expressed support for the act, emphasizing that acceptance of self-chosen sexuality and sexual expression is clear from the ethic of love found in many religious traditions, and the suffering of those who have experienced rejection or in one way or another been penalized for their sexuality.

What the legislation really seeks is the abolition of any private world in which a standard of chastity can be maintained… All speakers clearly assumed that the stories of suffering they offered establish injustice, and that this calls for government action to mandate acceptance of homosexual behavior and transgender claims in both the public and private worlds. They ignored what is the most basic fact of at least the Christian religion, and surely Judaism and Islam as well, namely that God is king, and our preeminent duty is to obey him above the mandates of state and society, family and friends.
