What happened when our compound was sealed up

Last Tuesday (3rd) the Health Department of our Bangalore Municipal Corporation put notices on the gates to our facility that a Corona positive case was living in our compound and sealed us.

9-month-old Baby Moses was found abandoned 8 months ago near a Hindu cemetery by a rickshaw driver who grew up in our children’s home and so brought the baby to us. Moses, who has been under our care since then, tested positive. All the 50+ residents in our compound were then tested with a nose swab by the Corporation and an antibody blood test by a private company. All tested negative. All children and adults in contact with Moses were isolated in our primary health centre facilities. The municipal authorities sanitize the entire facility professionally once a day.  Corporation medical staff visit us daily.

A second test was done at the end of the week and all tested negative again including Baby Moses who has had no symptoms for three days. The head of municipal health team suggested that we move Baby Moses to hospital. But his lady doctor assistant who visits Moses at least once a day believes our facilities are more than adequate for the baby.

Compelling Biblical Images

It is surprising how much of our ministry continues as before even with the sealing of our facility. Pastoral care, counseling, and bible study groups have grown. While concepts in the Bible are important to us, images are becoming very impactful. Some staff shared last week that the image of God leading his people while parting the Red Sea is very comforting at this time.

For me, the image of the second Adam who reverses the curse of the first Adam became compelling. After very careful efforts to keep the virus out of our community, one person who flouted the rules jeopardized the whole community. Thank God that Christ the second Adam is the Creator and Redeemer who still holds his creation in the palm of his hand and reverses the effects of human selfishness and sin.
