The latest performative crusade against JK Rowling proves that Britain’s elite is still trapped in gender insanity
Can Christmas lights be “transphobic”? This is not a question a sane person would ask. Yet apparently, this year’s lights in London’s Oxford Street can contribute to “transphobia” by virtue of the fact that they are Harry Potter-themed.
The ever more daft and desperate Good Law Project has launched a petition asking Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, to cancel the lights because of JK Rowling’s views on gender. “Harry Potter lights in one of the busiest streets of London will not make trans people feel Christmassy, welcome or safe,” they claim.
Madness, it seems, is still afoot. Rowling may be uncancellable (she has a net worth of £975m), but Christmas lights? This is the kind of performative and pathetic politics that passes for activism these days.
Unenlightened. Literally.
Meanwhile, in the real world, a doctor who says she was trying to protect children has taken legal action against her employers. Dr Sarah Redvers, a named safeguarding GP for Sussex, has told a tribunal she was harassed and bullied out of her job by the NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board (ICB) after she passed on complaints about Dr Sam Hall, another GP. Hall was said to be recommending puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to children without actually meeting and assessing them.
Rowling – she of Christmas-lights fame – has maintained since 2020 that medical “transing” of children, as revealed in the Cass Review of 2024, is one of the biggest medical scandals of our age. I agree. The evidence is in.
