Bishop of Kano reports Shooting and Kidnapping at Institute in Kaduna state, Nigeria
It has been reported that some armed gunmen yesterday stormed St. Albert Institute in FAYIT community of KAGOMA in KADUNA state. Eye witness report claims that the armed gunmen invaded the School through the rear part of the school fence at the time when the students were done having dinner. The gunmen numbering between 7 and 8 were heavily armed.
The security men who were on duty in the school noticed some suspicious movement and raised alarm to alert others. Upon hearing the alarm, the students and other members of the institute scampered around for protection. Noticing that there presence and intention had been exposed, the gunmen started shooting sporadically into the school. Some students sustained injuries of different degrees, but one in particular had a serious matchet cut.
Unfortunately, three students were kidnapped and taken to unknown destination. Reports reaching us says that the kidnappers have contacted one of the parents of the kidnapped boys with a demand for N50 million ransom. There is palpable fear and uncertainty in the institute and in the surrounding community as nobody knows what would happen next. As at the time of this report there is no news of government security agents attending to the community or institution.

Update: The Bishop of Kano reported on Thursday October 14th that a local radio station had reported that morning that the three students had been released without any ransom being paid. This was confirmed by an independent source.
