Core Issues Trust celebrate settlement from Barclays for stopping their account

The Times wrote in an editorial on Monday July 3rd

“one need not agree with the sometimes unpopular causes championed by those affected to detect a pernicious trend. Cancel culture has already driven those who dare to speak their minds within the law — some bravely, others misguidedly — from their jobs. Denying access to cash on the equally spurious grounds of subjectively offensive speech or political activism is just as sinister. The cases as reported all violate any reasonable standard of natural justice, with customers denied service without explanation or right of appeal. This is Kafkaesque.

This, however, seems to be how business is increasingly done in this country. Fearful of censure by self-styled progressives, businesses appoint themselves judge, jury and executioner — their judgments entirely subjective, their processes opaque. If banks have legitimate reasons for closing accounts, such as those that belonged to Mr Farage, they should make them clear to the customers affected. If there is no reason beyond politics or taste then the accounts should remain open. That this needs stating is worrying in itself.

Banking’s self-appointed political and moral censors must be held to account. The government must take action to stamp out this sinister exercise in political blackballing.”  See The Times here

One such case was recently won by Core Issues Trust who secured a settlement out of court from Barclays Bank for stopping their account of £21.500.  Core Issues Trust and X Out Loud acknowledged this outside Barclays headquarters in London. See the video here
