Kenny ‘Brave New Scotland’ Farquharson reported for a ‘hate crime’ by fuming Wee Free minister

by Ben Borland, Scottish Daily Express:

The journalist has stirred up a hornet’s nest with his column describing Kate Forbes as ‘unfit’ to be First Minister and now he has been reported to cops by a churchman who says his words have caused ‘significant abuse and mockery’.

One of the most prominent ministers in the Free Church of Scotland says he has reported The Times columnist Kenny Farquharson to Police Scotland under the Hate Crime Act.

The veteran journalist caused a storm of comment this week with an incendiary article in which he said the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP was “unfit” to be First Minister due to her Christian views. It was headlined: “Whoever leads Scotland next, it can’t be Kate Forbes.”

David Robertson, who is now the minister of Scots Kirk Presbyterian Church in Newcastle, New South Wales, has hit back in an equally forthright column for Christian Today. Like many other critics, he compares her treatment to that of Humza Yousaf, who is a practicing Muslim.

He writes: “The truth is that Kate Forbes would be ideal as First Minister of Scotland, which is why the SNP establishment doesn’t want her to become First Minister of Scotland. One does have to wonder, having read this bile, what right Farquharson has to be employed as a journalist in a reputable newspaper like The Times. If he had written in the same terms about Yousaf’s Muslim faith, as he has about Forbes’, he would be out of a job and probably in court under modern Scotland’s hate crime laws.
