Polyamory and the ‘next sexual revolution’ that has been here for years

On January 23 I posted on X, “Five days ago @MattWalshBlog wrote, ‘This is now the fourth article in a major media publication in the span of one week pushing ‘polyamory.’” Today, the @WSJ noted that ‘polyamory is having a moment.’ Perhaps this article that I wrote in 2012, called, ‘The Next Sexual Revolution Has Arrived,’ focusing on polyamory, deserves another read?”
That same day, I noticed an article written by Dennis Prager titled, “19 Years Ago, the Los Angeles Times Published a Column on Antisemitism on American Campuses.”
Prager noted that, “I recently came across is a column titled ‘When Young Jews Major in Antisemitism,’ published in 2005 in the Los Angeles Times. When I looked to see who wrote the column, I saw — to my surprise — that I did. I did not recall writing the piece. But it is very much worth reading today.”
He then reproduced his article in full, which gave serious pause for reflection.
In that same spirit, I will reproduce, below, the full text of my 2012 article to give us a perspective on the rapid rise of polyamory in America.
Before posting the text of that 2012 article, I should point out that the subject of these so-called “committed” loving relationships got my attention when writing my 2011 book A Queer Thing Happened to America, where the term “polyamory” occurred 28 times and “polyamorous” occurred 10 times.
In my 2015 book Outlasting the Gay Revolution, “polyamory” occurred 23 times and “polyamorous” 6 times. I also pointed out in that book how American views on polygamy were changing. Not surprisingly, in 2022, an article in the Harvard Law Review titled “Three’s Company, Too: The Emergence of Polyamorous Partnership Ordinances” that stated that, “According to a Gallup poll, since 2006, there has been a fourfold increase in the number of Americans reporting that polygamy is morally acceptable — from 5 to 20%.”
Let’s go back, then, to 2012. The polyamory “moment” has been here for quite some time.
