The Episcotape Letters

There are several ways to rage against the night; in this case, the growing apostasies of The Episcopal Church. The first is simply to ignore what is going on or to say things are not really that bad and hope that it will all go away in time and things will return to normal.
Another possibility is simply to ignore reality and say it isn’t so and that it is all a big lie. Alternatively, you can expose the apostasies and behavior of those who have ecclesiastical power and hope that other church leaders will deal with them as their sins are brought to light. But we know that more often than not, leaders close ranks and protect the institution. We are seeing this playing out big time in the Roman Catholic Church. The Episcopal Church does it as well until they come up against secular law and order as in the case of Bishop Heather Cook. Manslaughter, booze and drugs cannot be hidden even from ecclesiastical authorities.
There is another option: satire and ridicule.
No one was better at doing this than the late C.S. Lewis in his marvelous volume The Screwtape Letters. It is incomparable, peerless writing.
Here is a quote that might well describe the state of the Episcopal Church today:

My own feelings about the Church and life can be summed up in this quote by Lewis:
“Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy’s will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.”
