WATCH: CI lawyer explains furore over Scots hate crime Bill

Sep 19, 2020 by

from The Christian Institute:

The Christian Institute has launched the “Free to Disagree” campaign against ‘stirring up hatred’ offences in the Scottish hate crime Bill.

We’ve been campaigning for free speech and gospel freedom for twenty years but never have we experienced so many people agreeing with our concerns from such a wide cross section of society.

The Bill will be debated by the Scottish Parliament in the coming months and we want you to be aware of it because it won’t just affect Scotland. There is a real possibility people in England or Wales who publish material in Scotland, e.g. on social media, could be visited by Scottish police and accused of ‘stirring up hatred’ north of the border.

It is vital Christians think through these issues and engage in the discussion about what kind of country we want to live in.

That’s why we asked our Solicitor Advocate, Sam Webster, to explain why so many people are opposed to the ‘stirring up hatred’ offences.

Watch Sam discussing the Bill with our Deputy Director for Public Affairs, Simon Calvert.
