Notes on the Liturgical Feast for Today :  – Saint Darius  of Nicea, Martyr, 4th Century        is noted  by the Oriental Orthodox Churches, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church  on this day when he was martyred in the 4th century in Nicaea, alongside Zosimus, Paul and Secundus. In the O Antiphons today we recall and pray O Root of Jesse”  thus recalling the OT imagery where the Jesse Tree represents Jesus’ family tree as seen in Isaiah 11:1, in which Jesus is referred to as a shoot coming up from the stump of Jesse, the father of David. So this day we pray O Root of Jesse, standing as an ensign before the peoples, before whom all kings are mute, to whom the nations will do homage.

O Antiphon : O Radix Jesse – O Root of Jesse you  have been raised up as a sign for all peoples; kings stand silent in Your presence; the nations bow down in worship before You. Come; let nothing keep You from coming to our aid.

ANCIENT WISDOM/PRESENT GRACE:A mind that has found spiritual wisdom is like a man who finds a fully equipped ship at sea, and once he has gone aboard, it brings him from the sea of this world to the isle of the age to come. ” ― St. Isaac of Nineveh
