Italian hospital is ‘ready’ to accept Indi Gregory for life-support treatment after critically ill baby is granted citizenship

An Italian hospital has said it is ‘ready’ to accept Indi Gregory for life-support treatment after the critically ill baby was granted citizenship – but her parents fear the move will take some time due to legal and logistical issues.

The parents of eight-month-old Indi Gregory, who is suffering from an incurable illness, won a huge victory when their daughter was granted Italian citizenship, allowing her to be moved to Rome’s Bambino Gesù Hospital.

Her parents had wanted her to be treated in  Rome rather than stay in Britain where doctors were poised to end her life-saving treatment, but the High Court in London blocked the move.

But she can now be transferred to the hospital after an urgent cabinet meeting took place at 2.15pm, chaired by Italy‘s prime minister Giorgia Meloni, to grant Indi Italian citizenship.

The Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome said that it was ‘ready’ to accept Indi for treatment, with doctors and medical teams on standby, but any move is not imminent because of legal and logistical issues.
