Parents have complained about the use of the toolkit, which talks about breast binding and how to support trans pupils.

A council is reviewing its use of a controversial transgender toolkit for schools after complaints from parents.

Warwickshire County Council had issued the booklet to all schools in the county at the end of January last year.

The booklet – which describes itself as a “best practice guide” – provides schools with the information it needs to become a trans inclusive environment.

But now its use has been formally suspended as a review takes place into its content.

A spokesman for the council said: “Trans is an evolving complex area and it was identified that there was a knowledge gap within schools.

“It is our duty to provide schools with guidance to ensure all pupils are able to be themselves and reach their full potential in an inclusive school environment, without fear of judgement and discrimination.

“The toolkit is currently being reviewed in light of feedback to ensure it is as robust as possible for schools to use.”
